Rossetti’s words move beyond the familiar imagery of Christmas to the idea at its center: “Love was born at Christmas.” Her poem begins with the Incarnation and ends by asking what sign Christians should offer in response—answering simply with love of God and love of one another.
The artwork surrounds those words with symbols drawn from a traditional English Christmas. Holly and ivy climb around a Gothic arch, mistletoe and winter berries mingle with Christmas roses, and a robin rests above a distant snow-covered church. A small lantern burns below, giving the composition the character of an illuminated page discovered in an old volume of Christmas poetry.
Display it in a living room, entryway, bedroom, dining area, or office throughout Advent and Christmas. It pairs especially well with Christmas hymns, Rossetti poetry, traditional carols, nativity artwork, and botanical Christmas pieces—creating a collection built around the literature, faith, and traditions of the season.
A piece that reflects not simply the appearance of Christmas, but the conviction at its heart: Love came down at Christmas.
