Millay’s brief poem holds an entire philosophy in four lines: life may be finite, but that does not make its light less beautiful. The imagery of the burning candle becomes a quiet expression of passion, courage, creativity, and a willingness to live deliberately rather than cautiously.
With its dark botanical palette and celestial details, this piece feels especially at home among books, collected objects, and other art with literary or historical meaning. Display it in a library, reading room, bedroom, office, or living room, or pair it with other poetry and literary prints to build a collection around the words and writers that have stayed with you.
