The Battle of Trenton on December 26, 1776 followed Washington’s famous crossing of the Delaware and came at a critical moment in the Revolution. After months of defeat and retreat, the Continental Army needed more than a military victory—it needed renewed confidence that independence remained possible.
The prayer presented here centers not simply on victory, but upon duty, courage, perseverance, humility, and dependence upon God. Set against the bitter winter landscape of the Trenton campaign, those words give the artwork a contemplative quality beyond the battlefield itself.
